Sounds of Silence Spring Benefit Gala

Connections for Abused Women and their Children (CAWC) held its 24th  Annual Spring Gala Sounds of Silence on Saturday, April 17at 6 p.m. at The Union League Club (65 W. Jackson Blvd.).  The event gave recognition and a voice to the too often “silent” crime of violence between individuals and within families.

WGN-TV’s Judie Garcia served as the master of ceremonies of the black tie optional event. 260 guests enjoyed the evening, which included cocktails, a silent auction and mystery wine raffle, followed by a seated dinner featuring Belgian endive and saga bleu cheese wedge salad, wild-rice stuffed Cornish game hen with vegetable spaghetti and shiitake mushroom essence followed by chocolate bourbon cupcakes with vanilla crème frosting .  The event also included a live auction and dancing with music provided by DJ Max Davis of Style Matters.

Sounds of Silence raised more than $160,000 for CAWC’s four program areas: Greenhouse Shelter, Domestic Violence Services at Haymarket Center, Hospital Crisis Intervention Project and Humboldt Park Outreach Program.
